Show us your worst?

Post by Stewart94 »

With everyone sharing their Airliners and Jetphotos published pics...how about some disasters? :P

Image

What happens when an A320 starts to roll mid-exposure and an A340 taxi's past with the tail light on...

Heard them on the scanner stating they needed 4 minutes before departure as they approached the holding point, crept forward at about 2kts for most of it

Stewart.

Haha, good topic idea and that photo is hardly a disaster...just bad timing/luck. I have a few duds from SXM that I may post, but for the most part, I destroy all evidence of my shoddy work in-camera

Give me a little time to collect some duds. I have some funny clipped planes and blown exposures. And remember, every bad picture is the camera's fault.

Stewart, your picture is just really bad luck.

As promised, here are my finest moments from SXM in January. In my defense, the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort very generously added the Norwalk virus to my all-inclusive amenities, so my head wasn't straight for most of the trip. But yeah, please enjoy:

I was standing on the curb, waiting for Spirit to come in, when this stud tapped me on the shoulder and said "excuse me" when the A320 was 300 feet away. I moved out of the way, to let him walk by, but he turned around to get his picture taken. Yes, there was nowhere else he could have posed for that shot.
Image

There were about 6 photographers lined up across the beach, and this winner stepped in front of me at the last moment. Thanks guy, hope your one-handed shot came out as nicely as mine.
Image

Thanks for putting the camera above your head.
Image

Belly fat not exaggerated by the wide angle lens.
Image

Oh, a chance to redeem myself, and in nice light...let me go ahead and not zoom in at all.
Image

Why bother zooming when you can waste pixels on water and sky?

Nice shots of N673BF. I hear she frequents SXM. Such a different environment from the snow covered triple hangars shot I got of her last month.

I gotta say, I was distracted by all the nice ladies in your shots. Were you just shooting them when the plane just happened to fly by? :D

In the "belly fat" shot I honestly needed a few minutes to find the plane. All I saw was the blonde. :o

You need to get more static shots when your on Moho Beach!! ;)

I'll have to dig through some of my bad shots which are about 65% of what I take!!

Afraid got one to add...

Only had a few split seconds to get the shot, plus was 40kt gust so "machine gunned" it. Got a few without any obstruction though :D

If that had sun on it, I would have been outraged. I mean, how ignorant do you have to be to walk past someone holding a camera and stand right in front of them?

Oh, I have more static shots (and actual good ones)...but I'm not sure when and where I'll be posting them :P

Hah, that type of thing happens to me all the time, Stewart (mostly with light poles). As long as you got some clean shots :P

Here's some of my recent blunders. The first two I just never saw the wind cone. The last one I forgot that my camera was set for something else. Image

The wrong settings one reminds me of when I went to Maho Beach early in the morning, to catch the Amerijet 727. It was the first plane that arrived. I hit it perfectly, full frame, sharp, level, nicely centered and with a ridiculously nice cloud backdrop. I thought "wow, I finally got the perfect shot!" Then I looked at the details, and noticed I had left the ISO at 1600, from the night before, when I was trying for some low light panning shots :x Luckily, it was with my new 5D, which handles high ISO infinitely better than the 7D I used the year before.
