Two more catches - a nice Challenger:

And the second Allegiant I've been able to get with sun. The afternoon flight (which happened to be Make-A-Wish), now arrives a few minutes after sunset :( This one was coming in really high, then did a 360 about 2-3 miles from the runway. The airport had reversed from Runway 24 to 6 about 20 minutes prior, so I wonder if they were headed toward 24

Pretty sure this was Allegiant's first type sub at Trenton - an MD-82 instead of the usual A320:

Looks like those Allegiant MD80s are going to be somewhat easier to catch at EWR. I see one on the schedule for tomorrow mid/late morning arrival. If EWR is on 4s I can get that plus a Spirit 321 to keep me current on EWR carriers :D

Did AAY say which aircraft type they'll be using for the EWR routes? For whatever reason, FlightAware will always list AAY flights as MD80s until they are actually en route (and sometimes will even stay as MD80s even if an Airbus is en route).

Hmm I know today there was an A319 and an MD80

I just checked flight mapper and this is what it shows.
Savannah: A319
Asheville: MD80 (This was the MD80 route I saw today)
Cincinnati: A319 (This was the A319 route I saw today)
Knoxville: A320

The Knoxville Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday does at least (in theory) bring hope of specials.

That's a nice mix of types. Was a little surprised they use the A320 off TTN's short runway, but I guess the A320's higher engine thrust negates the extra weight.

Allegiant adjusted their afternoon flights to arrive about an hour earlier, opening up the chance to get some more daylight shots:

I already have enough shots of it from ABE, but the Make-A-Wish Foundation A320 came in:

Just need to finally get Visit Florida in good light 8-)

Looks like you had a bit more daylight than me today for your spotting. Hope to catch that at EWR soon!

With a small A320 fleet and two specials, I'm sure you'll get your chances soon!

Frontier subbed in another A320, and again, it was a brand new plane (8 days after delivery). Here's N236FR, "Marty the Marmot":

The airport finally removed the non-functioning jetway from the terminal, opening up more ramp space, but they also have more sets of airstairs around, totally blocking most or all shooting angles.

In news that excites virtually no one besides myself, Frontier will start scheduled A320/A320neo service at TTN in March, and by April 21st, all routes will switch to A320s. Maybe I won't have to go to DCA to get the neos, after all :)

Hmm that is going to make things interesting at TTN. I do want to try and spot there one day. Just need to learn the area... if only I knew a photographer around that airport

Ha, well it's pretty simple as long as you stay next to the terminal, don't walk around the short fence (there are two fences, one presumably to keep out shady Asian males), and there aren't any new cops on patrol who have never seen a plane spotter before. The tricky part is not having 2 big sets of stairs blocking the entire view :x

Here's a typical view of the ramp area:

Image

You can't walk much further right, and the fence cuts in closer to the taxiway anyway (blocking gear and engines), so there's virtually no clean shot of an A319/A320 a lot of the time.

It's been nearly 2 months since I last photographed a plane in sun at TTN, so I had to get out on a rare clear day, for 15 minutes. The only movements were a Frontier, Johnson & Johnson G550 and a G-IV, all of which I've shot previously, so I practiced my panning. I'm quite terrible at it, so I only managed 1 tack sharp at 100% frame between the 3 planes:

Nice! Which shutter speed were you using?
But don't worry I would say I have steady hands, still anything slower than 1/100s for moving objects is not really my strength. I tried once some pannings here with 1/50s or 1/60s and I think out of 15 one shot came out sharp. ;)

I believe this one was 1/125, which didn't blur the background as much as I wanted, but I'm happy to have just gotten a sharp shot. I'll have to try lower next time. It doesn't help that I can't really get any shots perpendicular to the plane, as there are usually too many obstructions at that angle.

Is this just handheld. If so I have no ability of panning. I have thought of trying to pan with a tripod first just get the idea of using a fluid like motion.

Yup, handheld. If I can do 1/125, anyone can. I have some of the shakiest hands in the industry.
